What is an eSim?

An eSIM (embedded SIM) is a digital cellular plan from a carrier without the need for a physical SIM card.

With eSIMs, users can switch data carriers without needing to obtain and insert a new SIM card! This is particularly useful for travellers who need to access the internet outside of Canada.

Please note, eSIMs do not support voice call and SMS texting for the time being.

How do I purchase an eSIM?

You can purchase your eSIM in the KOHO app under the Discover Tab -> eSIM or find it under your benefits if you are on our Essential, Extra or Everything plan by heading to the My Plan tab.

Am I eligible to purchase an eSIM?

To access your eSIM you will need to be registered for KOHO Essential, Extra or Everything. To sign up for a KOHO Plan, you can head to the My Plan tab in-app! You can learn more about the perks of a Plan here.

As a part of our Plans, Extra users receive 1GB (over 7 days) free each month and Everything users will get 3GB (over 30 days) for free each month. These eSIMs can be redeemed for any international country.

How do I install and activate my eSIM?

After purchasing your eSIM, you will be prompted to Install the eSIM. If you navigate away from this page, you can always trigger installation again by clicking on eSIM > follow the prompt to Install the eSIM.

Can I get an eSIM for Canada?

eSIM is not currently available in Canada. This feature is best for when you’re taking off on your next vacation or international trip!

Can I keep my physical SIM card in my phone?

Most iPhone and Android devices have dual SIM technology that allows you to stay connected to both your physical SIM and eSIM. You can select which SIM to use for data connectivity in your cellular data settings.

Who do I contact if I need installation/troubleshooting support?

For questions about accessing eSIM in the app, you can contact our in-app support team.

If you have questions about your plan and troubleshooting installation of your eSIM please contact BOXO support in the KOHO app by going to eSIM > Help Centre > Message us.

How do I track my data usage?

You’ll be able to view your data usage in-app in the Discover Tab -> eSIM. You’ll be able to see the remaining gigabytes of data you have along with the countries listed.

How much does it cost?

It depends! Each country and data package has a different price point.

You can view the cost of the packages available to you in the Discover Tab -> eSIM. If you have an Extra plan, you will get access to a 1GB (7 days) eSIM for free every month and if you are on our Everything plan, you will get 3GB (30 days) for free every month.

What eSIM packages are available?

This depends on the country you’re visiting and the length of your stay! You get access to over 200 countries eSIM options with the KOHO eSIM powered by Airalo. To view this information in the KOHO app by going to the Discover Tab -> eSIM and select the country you’re traveling to.

When does the data plan start?

Your plan may either activate as soon as you install your eSIM or activate once you connect to any of the supported networks in the destination country or region. Go to your eSIM > Details > Activation Policy to find out when your plan will activate.

Can I use eSims on my device?

Your device must be carrier-unlocked and eSIM-compatible. You can check out this article to see if your device is supported.

We’ll also let you know before you purchase an eSIM in-app if your device isn’t compatible.

I have remaining data on my eSIM. Can I use it later?

You can use the remaining data on your eSIM for the time period determined at sign up.

For example, if you have a 3GB Plan for the United States over 30 days, you’ll have to utilize the data within the 30 day period.
