Who can use Rent Reporting?

Updated over a week ago

With KOHO’s Rent Reporting, you can build your credit history by paying rent to your landlord with KOHO!

✅ You're eligible to use Rent Reporting if you:

  • Enrol in a paid plan or subscribe to Credit Building

  • Pay your landlord from your KOHO account through e-Transfer, a pre-authorized debit, or your KOHO card

❌ Rent Reporting is not available for the following scenarios:

  • Those with roommates listed on the rental agreement (including family or a spouse)

  • Those who pay rent weekly or biweekly

  • Those who split rent into multiple payments

  • Those who pay rent with a different payment method (cash, bill payment, etc.)

  • Those who pay over $5000 in rent with e-Transfer

  • Those receiving rent payments as a landlord

  • Those paying a mortgage

  • Those paying with KOHO-to-KOHO transfer (Landlord has a KOHO account)

  • Those who pay rent with their Joint account

  • Those who pay rent with an external account and their KOHO account

If I have a rental agreement with a roommate or my spouse/family member, can I use Rent Reporting?

You will not be eligible for Rent Reporting as of yet! For our initial launch, we will be unable to support roommates or multiple tenants on a rental agreement.

How do I know if I have anyone else in my rent agreement?

Review your rental agreement carefully to see if anyone else is listed. Look for sections that mention Tenants, Co-tenants, Lessees, Renters, or Residents, these usually indicate people who are legally responsible for the lease. If anyone else is listed as a tenant, co-tenant, or lessee, it means you’re sharing the lease, and Rent Reporting isn’t available for shared leases just yet.

You may also see Occupants listed. Occupants are people who live in the unit but are not legally responsible for the lease, and that’s completely fine, as long as you are the sole tenant on the lease and the others are only listed as occupants.

If you’re unsure whether you share the agreement with anyone else, the easiest approach is to ask your landlord or property manager. They can confirm exactly who is included on the rental agreement.

Can I use Rent Reporting if I pay rent in instalments or on a biweekly/weekly basis?

At this time, our Rent Reporting feature only supports monthly rent payments. We’re working on improvements, so stay tuned for possible updates in the future.

If I have a rental payment that is over $5000, can I use Rent Reporting?

If you have a rental payment of over $5000, we recommend paying with pre-authorized debit (PAD) or your KOHO card.

Due to the $5000 velocity limit on e-transfers, we cannot support multiple rent payments for Rent Reporting via e-Transfer. Please stay tuned for our next iteration of Rent Reporting 👍

Can I use Rent Reporting if I receive rent or pay a mortgage?

Rent Reporting is exclusively available to KOHO members who pay rent to a landlord. If you're a landlord or paying a mortgage, you won't be able to use Rent Reporting.
