How do I know if I have anyone else in my rent agreement?

Updated over a week ago

Review your rental agreement carefully to see if anyone else is listed. Look for sections that mention Tenants, Co-tenants, Lessees, Renters, or Residents, these usually indicate people who are legally responsible for the lease. If anyone else is listed as a tenant, co-tenant, or lessee, it means you’re sharing the lease, and Rent Reporting isn’t available for shared leases just yet.

You may also see Occupants listed. Occupants are people who live in the unit but are not legally responsible for the lease, and that’s completely fine, as long as you are the sole tenant on the lease and the others are only listed as occupants.

If you’re unsure whether you share the agreement with anyone else, the easiest approach is to ask your landlord or property manager. They can confirm exactly who is included on the rental agreement.
