What is the difference between a fraud case and a dispute case?

Updated over 2 weeks ago

Fraud Case

What it means: You did not authorize the transaction and do not recognize the merchant.

Example:

  • Your card was stolen and used at a gas station

  • Someone guessed your card number and used it online

Tip: Check the transaction time and see if you've ever bought from that merchant before, especially with recurring payments.

Dispute Case

What it means: You authorized the transaction, but something went wrong with the purchase or how you were charged.

Example:

  • You ordered something that never arrived

  • You got charged twice for the same thing

  • The final amount is higher than what you agreed to

  • What you received isn’t what you ordered

  • You were charged after cancelling a subscription
