What is Tenant Coverage?

Tenant Coverage is insurance for renters that provides crucial financial protection against unforeseen events and liabilities that could otherwise be financially devastating.


Is Tenant Coverage available for my province?

Tenant Insurance is available to all KOHO members. However, our Standard Tenant Coverage packages are only available to KOHO members in Alberta, Ontario, Manitoba, Nova Scotia, and British Columbia.

If you have additional coverage needs or want more customized insurance coverage, we recommend getting a Custom Tenant Coverage through our partner, Walnut.


What is the difference between Standard Tenant Coverage and Custom Tenant Insurance?

Standard Tenant Coverage is a group insurance product with predefined coverages offered by the insurer in Alberta, Ontario, Manitoba, Nova Scotia, and British Columbia. Members can purchase this standard coverage through KOHO and access policy details and documents directly in the KOHO app. Learn more here.

Custom Tenant Coverage is for tenants with needs that are not covered by the standard tenant coverage. You can select custom insurance based on your own specific requirements. For this option, KOHO members are directed to visit https://www.gowalnut.com/ca/koho to receive a quote through our partner, Walnut. KOHO members must access Walnut or the insurer for policy details and documents, as this information is unavailable in the KOHO mobile app.


I have a question about the Custom Tenant Coverage, who do I contact?

The easiest way to get information about the Custom Tenant Coverage is by referring to the policy documents for your coverage. You can access your coverage information from the confirmation email you would have received from our partner Walnut after purchasing. This will include details on how to make a claim.

Can I see my Custom Tenant Coverage, such as my Certificate or policy details, in the KOHO mobile app?

Custom Tenant Insurance from Walnut will not be visible in the KOHO app. Please refer to the confirmation email you would have received from our partner, Walnut, after purchasing your coverage.


Can I earn cash back on my rent payments with a Custom Tenant Coverage?

Unfortunately, Custom Tenant Coverage will not qualify for the 0.25% cash back on rent payments.

How do I make a Custom Tenant Coverage claim?

Claims need to be submitted through the insurance administrator of the Group Tenant product. If you need additional support with your claim, you can contact Walnut by emailing them at [email protected]. Please include your First and Last Name, Address and Contact Number. Walnut is also available for phone support Monday to Friday at 1-888-818-8261 during business hours.

Note: KOHO cannot assist with claims-related questions as KOHO does not manage or adjudicate claims. This is the sole ownership of the administrator of the insurance product. You should contact the insurance provider directly. Contact details are provided in the certificate of insurance.


What if I want to change or cancel my Custom Tenant Coverage?

Custom Tenant Insurance from Walnut will not be visible in the KOHO app. Please refer to our partner Walnut directly for more information on cancellation.
