**If you do not recognize or authorize a transaction on your account, go into the app to Lock your card in your KOHO app immediately.** Just **select My cards > toggle Lock** on both of your cards. For a new physical or virtual card, tap on **Request a New Card.**

💡 If you recognize the charge and want to start a dispute, [take a look at this article instead for guidance](https://koho.kustomer.help/en_us/how-do-i-file-a-chargeback-or-dispute-r1Yp9scIbe).

### Next, answer these questions:

#### Do you recognize the merchant's name?

Sometimes merchants use different names for their stores than what is on file for their credit card transactions

#### Is the amount familiar?

Double-check the receipt that was issued to you as well as [what currency you were charged in](https://koho.kustomer.help/en_us/how-much-is-the-foreign-exchange-fee-S1g1jocIWe).

#### Is the date unfamiliar?

Merchants will sometimes post the transaction a few days after your initial visit.
Read more about [pending transactions and settlements](https://koho.kustomer.help/en_us/what-do-pending-and-settled-mean-SkV1noq8x) to understand why!

#### Is the location unfamiliar?

Some merchants have processing systems in different cities. For example you might see Spotify's transactions are processed in Europe but you are charged in CAD!

#### Have you dealt with this merchant before?

Sometimes merchants such as [hotels](https://koho.kustomer.help/en_us/can-i-use-koho-to-book-hotels-HJXkoo9UZl) and [car rental](https://koho.kustomer.help/en_us/can-i-use-koho-to-book-a-rental-car-rymJjo98l) companies apply charges after your stay or rental has ended. Sometimes this will be an updated amount due to them for things like a security deposit or damage charge!

#### Did you recently sign up for a trial offer?

Make sure you read the terms and conditions and cancel your subscription fully before the trial ends. Many companies will just automatically bill you without checking if you want to continue using their service.

#### Is there someone else in your household who may be using your card details?

Be careful whom you share your credit card details with! Remember that since KOHO is pre-paid this person is gaining access to your hard-earned money and we are not able to dispute charges if they were made by someone with access to your card number!

If you’ve gone through this checklist and still want to report the transaction, you can do this directly in the KOHO app.

If the transaction is still pending and you suspect fraud, you do not need to wait for it to settle before taking action to secure your account.

Here’s how:

* Sign into the KOHO app and go to your transactions
* Select the transaction you have an issue with
* Tap the three dots (...) labeled “More” at the top of the screen
*   Select “Report an issue”
* Choose “I neither authorized or participated in this purchase, I suspect fraud”
* Follow the steps shown in the app

Once you secure your account, we will:

* Lock your card immediately to help prevent additional unauthorized charges
* Place the transaction under review
*   Begin a fraud investigation
* Keep you updated through email and in-app notifications

💡 Important: A dispute can only be officially submitted once the transaction moves from Pending to Settled.
