At KOHO, we’re building the ultimate savings experience for all Canadians. We want to help you save so you can travel more, retire sooner, and restore financial balance. So how do we stack up to the competition? Read on!
No Account Fees 💱
KOHO has no account fees. Also, no minimum balance or maximum number of transactions. Meanwhile, the average monthly fee on a debit account at one of the big banks is $15. Many credit cards have an annual fee of over $100.
Cash Back 🎁
You'll earn 0.5% on every purchase (we call this a PowerUp). Most debit cards don't offer cash back, while traditional credit cards vary between cash back and points but have hefty interest charges if you carry a balance.
No NSF Fees 📉
At KOHO we don’t charge non-sufficient funds (NSF) fees. Instead, you’ll get a friendly notification if there aren't enough funds to fulfill a transaction. Or, if you have money tucked away in a Savings Goal, the app will pull from there. At most financial institutions you’re charged an NSF fee up to $45 when a cheque or transfer bounces. How rude!
Interest Rates ⛓️
With KOHO, there are none. Since it’s your hard-earned money on your KOHO account, and since we’re not extending credit, it’s not possible to owe us interest. On traditional credit cards, you’re typically paying 20% interest on outstanding balances.
FX Transaction Fees ⛱️
Our foreign transaction fee (or FX; a standard fee on international transactions) is lower than the big five banks or traditional credit cards. You’re charged a 1.5% at KOHO vs. 3.5% with them, and we don't profit from it.
ATM Withdrawals 🏧
KOHO users can withdraw money at any ATM. The cost is $2-3 depending on the out-of-network fee the ATM you’re withdrawing from charges. We don't charge any fees on our side.
With KOHO you get free and unlimited Interac e-Transfers. You can’t send e-Transfers on traditional credit cards and most debit cards have fees or limits.
